The new Rainbow Wing at the Christian Care Centre is heading towards final completion assisted with funding raised through our 2017 Lenten Appeal. So far we have been able to send NZ$15,000 to Melanesia for this project.
In a recent trip to the Solomon Islands, Michael Hartfield, AMB’s Operations & Projects Manager visited the Care Centre and saw first hand the progress of the building. It is hoped it will be officially opened before the end of the year.
The new wing has a total of 7 rooms – 5 upstairs and 2 rooms on the ground floor plus an office room and joins onto the original house (in the photo the new wing is the part with the white verandah and above). There is a classroom for teaching the children.
The kitchen serves about 15 Sisters, headed by Sister Phyllis, and as well there can be up to about 30 women (and children) staying. All staying take part in the cooking. Skills are taught and shared in sewing, cooking, and general life skills.
