New Cornerstone Laid for the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin in Jordan.
Diocese of Jerusalem, the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East
On February 12th in the heart of Jordan’s third largest city, Irbid, the Right Rev’d Dr. Suheil Dawani, Anglican Bishop in Jerusalem and Bishop of the Diocese of Jerusalem, laid the cornerstone for the Church of St. Mary-the-Virgin.
Being built on the site of Arab Episcopal School (the focus of AMB’s Lent Appeal last year), the new St. Mary-the-Virgin Church will comfortably seat 200 parishioners providing the space needed for congregational and school growth. The multi service Parish Hall on the lower ground floor of the Church will accommodate 250 persons seated for dinner and can also be utilized for meetings by community groups related to the school. Sunday attendance, according to Vicar Fr. Samir Esaid has averaged between 70 and 80 parishioners including children in the current small chapel.

Missions Consultation 30-31 March 2009
At the November Board meeting last year, many questions were raised about the role of the Anglican Missions Board, its Canon, how we decide upon who we give grants to, and most importantly its future direction.
To begin addressing these questions, the Board has invited numerous people and representatives from each Diocese and Hui Amorangi to a Missions Consultation on 30 March and 31 March 2009 in Wellington in order to canvas the views of the wider Church as they work to building a consensus on the priorities for the Board going forwards.
Keep an eye out for updates as the Board responds to what comes from the consultation.

Lenten/Good Friday AppealThanks to the generosity of people, last year’s Lenten/Good Friday appeal raised $15774 for the ministry of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East.
The Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East extends over five countries, including Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Israel and supports thirty-five institutions, which include hospitals, clinics, kindergartens, schools, vocational training programmes, as well as institutions for the deaf, the disabled and the elderly.
Please look for this year’s appeal envelope in your church and support the on-going ministry of the Episcopal Church as they ‘faithfully administer God’s grace in its various forms.’ (1 Peter 4:10)
